A Call to Trust & Obedience

I have been wrestling with something for the last couple of months. I have felt strongly that God has been calling me to "come away with Him". To put my work commitments on hold for a time and devote it to... well, giving space for God to work, to direct my steps. At first, I thought "a sabbatical?". And in my mind, I began to argue all the reasons that makes no sense. I have a new business, a ministry. There has been much fruit and lives are being impacted and things are just beginning to get momentum. "Lord, you led me back to school, filled me with knowledge and passion, gave me an audience, a platform -- surely this cannot be time to STOP!" But that is exactly where I feel I am being led.  I will be honest, I am extremely uncomfortable with this.  I am a planner, an executor... I produce, accomplish, serve, earn.  I'm a worker.  THAT, oddly enough, is my comfort zone.  Rest in Him?  Have no plan?  Trust I will be led?  Trust all of my hard work will not fall away?   YIKES! My "Aha" Moment of Gratitude

I had an interesting moment on Thanksgiving day. I attended a morning gratitude yoga class. It was wonderful for my body and felt so good. The teacher was fabulous, the environment was warm and beautiful, my heart was thankful for the practice of yoga and it's ability to rid my mind of distraction, I was excited to be in that mind space, and I was ready to fill with gratitude. But over the course of the class, I found that something was desperately missing for me. Read More

Confessions of a recovering helicopter mom

It’s amazing what you can learn about your loved ones – and yourself – through a single experience. I’ve written before about the trip my son and I took to JH Ranch, a Christian summer camp that involved lots of adventure, lots of terrifying heights, and lots of life changing events.    I have a cool story that goes out to any woman who perhaps struggles with letting go of …  control (as if I have met one that doesn’t in one form or another).      The story is about a 10 foot vertical wall and the need to get 10 people – our team 5 moms and 5 sons – over it in 7 minutes, including planning time. It started with a challenge.  And ended with some pretty profound life lessons about my relationship with my son... and myself. Read More

Protect the Asset

"Self care" has become quite the buzz word lately.  It isn't really a new concept, but as our lives get more and more hectic in this fast-paced world, and we suffer more dis-ease as a result, the more prevalent its importance.  Many tend to write off "self care" as a luxury, but perhaps looking at it from a slightly different angle will help.     The best asset we have to for making a contribution in this world is ourselves.  If we underinvest in ourselves -- our minds, our bodies and our spirits - we damage the very tool we need to make our highest contribution.
