My personal journey with yoga

Many years ago, I decided to try this thing called yoga. It was suggested to be the perfect compliment to my (much overdone) approach to fitness. I was finding that my muscles and joints felt tighter and tighter with little relief as I aged, so I tried it. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it felt to move my body in that way, and I did notice relief. But – OH! – my mind was not good with it. It seemed like it went so sllllooooowwww compared to my normal patterns. Not slow as in relaxing. Slow as in painful, like “can we get on with this?” The benefits kept calling to me though, so I stuck with it. Mind racing, irritation in having “one more thing to do”, I was the person who rolled up her mat before “final relaxation” because “I didn’t have time for that”. This began my resistant-laden journey from skeptic to advocate. I invite you to read on and explore where a regular yoga practice may benefit you and where you may have resistance.
